Reception's Long Term Plan for Parents

Pupils of the Year! Oh this was the hardest decision EVER having to choose 2 pupils as the whole of Reception have been amazing! Erin and Mamadou have made lots of progress this year and have really worked their socks off! Well done both of you and to the rest of Reception. Have an amazing Summer and lots of luck for Year 1! xx

w/c 17th July 2023 - What an amazing last week we have had in Reception! We were unable to find the Gingerbread Man so we all decided to bake our own, luckily they didn't run away!

14th July 2023 - Star of the week is William for trying really hard to communicate to others in class. Lily is writer of the week for her effort in writing her missing poster for the Gingerbread Man. Well done both of you!

w/c 10th July 2023 - We had some shocking news in Reception this week, the Gingerbread Man that Miss Jackson baked had run away! We came into school to find an empty baking tray with a trail of flour leading to the door. The children couldn't believe it and we all decided that we needed to create some missing posters to let the whole school know! So far, he hasn't been spotted by anyone. Have you seen him?

w/c 3rd July 2023 - This week we have been trying our hardest to help the Gingerbread Man to cross the river safely! We have been building boats and bridges to help him cross over the river so he doesn't have to ask the sly fox. I think we've all done a pretty good job, well done Reception!

30th June 2023 - Star of the week is Sapphire for independently completing all her busy brain challenges. Mamadou is writer of the week for writing instructions on how to plant a bean seed. Well done both of you!

23rd June 2023 - Writer of the week is Carter for independently writing instructions on how to plant a beanstalk. He applied all his Phonics skills and non-negotiables into his writing, well done. Amelia is star of the week for her efforts in Sports Day. Well done both of you!

w/c 19th June 2023 - We ended this week with our sports day! Reception took part in an egg and spoon race, sack race, bean bag throw and a balancing race. We had a lovely turn out of parents too so a huge thank you to everyone who came to watch us! Well done to all grown ups who joined in the egg and spoon race too, Marek's Mummy won the race!! Well done everyone.

16th June 2023 - Sidona is star of the week for trying her hardest to communicate to others. Esmae is writer of the week for forming some clear letters when writing her name. Well done girls!

w/c 12th June 2023 - We're going on a bear hunt! Reception had the BEST DAY EVER at Nell Bank on 14/6/23. We spent the day acting out the story, exploring water play, mini beast hunting and pond dipping. Our visit to Nell Bank has supported our writing, we innovated the story and made it our own. What a great week we have had!

9th June 2023 - Star of the week is Leo for always putting the effort in with his learning, trying his hardest all the time. Lucas is writer of the week for his amazing writing about the bear hunt! He used his phonic knowledge and applied it to his work by writing words. Well done to both of you!

w/c 22nd May 2023 - Adventure week! So far this week we have been learning all about Holly Budge. She is an adventurer who has climbed Mount Everest, as well as being the first person to skydive from an aeroplane at the summit of the mountian, wow! As part of the week we have turned ourselves into adventurers and have been reading maps, making dens, building fires and climbing our very own mountains!

19th May 2023 - Star of the week is Bella for her enthusiasm towards our class chicks. She has been so engaged in learning all about the life cycle and sitting and watching them grow and change each day, Bella's Mum even came in for some visits to see them! Sapphire is writer of the week for her amazing independent writing about the life cycle of a chick. Well done both of you!

National Numeracy Day 17.5.23 - To celebrate National Numeracy Day, Reception turned snack time into a shop! The children were given 5 1p coins to 'spend' in the shop. We spoke about the cost of our milk and fruit and how we could spend all our money or some but we couldn't spend more than 5p. The children really had to think carefully about what they wanted to buy. What would you spend your money on?

w/c 9th May 2023 - Well it's safe to say, this has been one of the most exciting weeks we've had in Reception so far this year! We had some eggs delivered on Tuesday and got to watch the first chick hatch right in front of us! The children have been learning all about life cycles as well as how to look after and care for living things.

5th May 2023 - Star of the week is Marek for completing busy brain challenges independently. Logan is writer of the week for his writing all about King Charles. Well done boys, proud of you this week!

W/C 2nd May 2023 - This week we have been learning all about King Charles III and his coronation this weekend. We have written about him, drawn portraits, created collages, made ribbon sticks, sang songs and made crowns at home for a whole school competition! Such a busy week!

28th April 2023 - Writer of the week is Aisha for her super writing of her own version of Handa's Hen. Mamadou is star of the week for the progress he has made in his learning so far this year. Well done both of you!

w/c 24.4.23 - This week we have been writing our own version of Handa's Hen, linking it to British Wildlife. I am so proud of the children's writing this week, they have really applied their writing non-negotiables as well as their phonics skills to write some amazing sentences!

21st April 2023 - What a great first week back after Easter. We have been so busy and kick started our topic off with reading the story Handa's Hen. We have been learning about British Wildlife and comparing it to the wildlife in Kenya. Star of the week is Noah for always contributing during carpet sessions and being enthusiastic towards his learning. Lily is writer of the week for her super sentences about British Wildlife. Well done both of you!

Reception would like to wish you all a very Happy Easter! Have a great 2 weeks holiday and we will see you all on the 17th April 2023 :)

24th March 2023 - Star of the week is Carter for his amazing efforts in his Maths learning this week. Treasure is writer of the week for challenging herself in her morning writing challenge. Well done both of you :)

w/c 20th March 2023 - This week we have been learning all about the number 6 in maths. Our composition skills are developing so well and most children have fast recall of all the different ways to make 6! I am so so proud of them all. In our writing, we have been focusing on Understanding the World and have been drawing our route to school, writing a list of all the features they can see on the way. Superstars!

17th March 2023 - Star of the week is Shreyo for his map skills and being able to identify key features of our environment. Shreyo even brought in a map that he had done at home! Marek is writer of the week for creating his own map whislt looking at photos of our school grounds. Well done boys!

w/c 13th March 2023 - This week we have been exploring the area around our school. We have been on a little walk around the school grounds to see what features we can see. All week we have been drawing maps of our school, identifying key features. If you need a map of our school, come and see Reception, they have worked so hard! In Maths, we have been exploring and comparing weight and capacity. Check out your child's Tapestry for videos of the exploration.

10th March 2023 - SNOW DAY FUN!!

3rd March 2023 - Star of the week is Logan for always being a kind and caring friend to others in class. Melian is writer of the week for her independent writing during her morning challenges. Well done both of you!

w/c 27th February 2023 - This week we have been reading The Three Little Pigs. We have been discussing the materials used to build the pigs houses as well as learning new vocabulary to describe them. We built some houses and then the big bag wolf came and tried to blow them down! We came to the conclusion that using bricks to build houses is the best idea as they are strong, secure, solid and robust!

24th February 2023 - Star of the week is Xander for his amazing efforts all the time with his learning. Miah is writer of the week for her lovely sentence about Mr Wolf's Pancakes. Well done both of you!

w/c 20th February 2023 - This week Reception have been reading the story 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes'. We discussed pancake day and why it is celebrated. In Literacy we discussed ways of helping Mr Wolf and we decided we needed to write a shopping list and some instructions so we could help him to make some pancakes. The best part was, we evene got to eat some ourselves! In Maths we have been learning all about Zero and what it means. A busy first week back, onto the next!

10th February 2023 - Star of the week is Melian for her AMAZING art work during Literature week. Logan is writer of the week for perservering at forming a G for his surname. He now forms this beautifully. Well done both of you :)

w/c 6.2.23 - Literature week - Reception's fable of the week was 'The Hare and the Tortoise.' We listened to the story, created a story map, wrote a song, innovated the story to make it our own and wrote some sentences. We discussed the moral of the fable being slow and steady! We also read an alternative fable called 'The Whale Who Wanted More.' The moral of this fable was it doesn't matter how much 'stuff' you have, being a kind person will fill your heart up more. After listening to this fable, we created some beautiful sketchings of fish. Thank you to all the parents and carers who came into school to see our art work in the hall on Friday!

3rd February 2023 - Writer of the week is Lucas for drawing a picture of his bridge that he built. He also wrote his name, forming letters carefully. Leo is star of the week for his enthusiasm in Maths during our shape hunt. Well done both of you!

w/c 30th January 2023 - This week in Reception, we have been using the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff to support our focus of bridge building. We talked about what materials we could use to create a strong bridge for the goats to cross. Once we had built our bridges, we drew our designs. In Maths, we have been learning all about squares and rectangles. Can you find any squares and rectangles around your house?

27th January 2023 - Amelia is writer of the week for applying her phonics skills to write some instructions. Aisha is star of the week for her efforts in Literacy. Both girls, as well as the whole class have worked so hard this week to help Goldilocks make some porridge, it was really hard to choose!

w/c 23rd January 2023 - It has been a very exciting week in Reception. On Monday, we recieved a letter from Goldilocks asking for our help to make Baby Bear some porridge. We wrote a shopping list straight away and then some instructions on how to make porridge. On Thursday, we followed our instructions to make ourselves and Baby Bear some porridge! We have been so busy!

20th January 2023 - Star of the week is Sapphire for her enthusiasm towards her own learning all the time. Mamadou is writer of the week for his innovation of the story Goldilocks and the 3 bears. Great work this week you two :)

w/c 16th January 2023 - This week we have been learning all about the number 5. We have explored composition and representation of 5. In Literacy we have been using the story map of Goldilocks and the 3 bears to retell the story. We even retold the story to Year 2. Lots of story maps have been created at home too, what superstars we have in Reception! The weather has been so cold that we have been able to talk about winter in a more practical way, brrr!

13th January 2023 - Lily is writer of the week for her amazing story map of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Lucas is star of the week for joining in retelling stories. Well done both of you!

w/c 9th January 2023 - Can you guess what story we are reading in Reception this week?... It's Goldilocks and the Three Bears! We have the Bears cottage set up in the classroom as well as some small world enhancements to encourage us to retell stories. In Literacy we are creating story maps to retell the story, next week we will be innovating the story and making some changes to it. In maths we have been learning all about the number 4. We explored composition and how to represent it in many ways.

6th January 2023 - Erin and Shreyo have our first awards of 2023! Erin is writer of the week for developing her independance when writing all about the Night Monkey and Day Monkey. Shreyo is star of the week for showing some understanding and comprehension when reading. Well done both of you!

w/c 4th January 2023 - Happy New Year and welcome back Reception! For our first week back, we have been using the story Night Monkey, Day Monkey to support our Maths and Literacy learning. In Maths, we have been talking about routines and what we do during the day and at night time. In Literacy, we have been writing about all the things Day Monkey and Night Monkey have seen for the first time. 

Pupils of the term - Amelia and Noah! It has been very difficult to just choose 2 pupils but we went with Noah for always smiling, working hard and being a pleasure to have in class and Amelia for joining in, working her socks off, especially in maths and being a super Donkey in our Nativity performance! Well done to both of you and also to the rest of Reception!

w/c 12th December 2022 - It's Christmas! This week we have had our Christmas party, a visit from Santa and Christmas dinner! We are all certainly ready for Santa to arrive now! Hohoho! We hope you all have a lovely Christmas and safe start to 2023!

9th December 2022 - Star of the week is Treasure for her amazing effort in our Nativity performance. She was a confident narrator and Angel. Logan is writter of the week for huge improvements in writing his name. Well done both of you!

w/c 5th December 2022 - We did it! A huge well done to all Nursery and Reception for their amazing efforts in our Nativity performance. We danced, sang and acted our way through the story of the first Christmas! We are all so proud of you, little superstars!

2nd December 2022 - Star of the week is Carter for always making the right choices, trying hard, joining in and being a great role model to others. Logan is writer of the week for making improvements in his letter formation whilst labelling the Everywhere Bear. Well done boys, great effort this week!

w/c 28th November 2022 - This week we had a visit from Wendy from Road Safety, she spoke to us about how to keep safe on the roads and whilst out walking on the pavement. In maths, we have been learning all about composition of numbers up to 3. We used numicon, double sided counters and our fingers to find all the different ways to make amounts to up to 3. We have also been practising our Nativiity ready for the perfomance next week!

25th November 2022 - Writer of the week is Noah for writing his name without his name card and being very proud of himself, as are we! Bella and Miah are stars of the week for thier amazing home learning challenge with the Everywhere Bear. Well done you three!

w/c 21.11.22 - Reception have been reading the story "The Everywhere Bear" this week. We have our very own bear in class who has been on an adventure around school during the night. We couldn't believe all the places he had been! We have a home learning challenge too where we have taken home our very own Everywhere Bear for an adventure. We have also had a reading challenge this week, tricky words have been hidden all around the classroom, we had to find them, read them and write them! Wow, what a busy week!

18th November 2022 - Children in Need. Reception have helped to raise money for Children in Need by dressing in their own clothes and donating £1. We made some Pudsey Bear ears too!

18th November 2022 - Star of the week is Mamadou for being enthusiastic when looking at books. Writer of the week is Aisha for her amazing drawing and writing words. Well done both of you!

w/c 14th November 2022 - Reception have been learning all about the number 3 in maths. We have been looking at ways to represent 3 as well as looking at composition. During choosing time, Reception have been doing lots of mark making, writing and drawing, we have been able to create a lovely display in the classroom showcasing all our beautiful writing. We had an emergency in maths this week as our Numberblock characters 1 and 2 went missing, we looked everywhere for them and couldn't see where they had gone. This was the perfect opportunity to create some missing posters which we displayed around school. Thankfully, Miss Jackson found them hiding with the dominoes!!

11th Novemeber 2022 - Logan is star of the week for being a really kind friend. Treasure is writer of the week for super effort in Phonics. Well done you two!

w/c 7th November 2022 - This week in maths we have been learning all about the Number 2. In Literacy we have been talking about where we live and what we have in Armley around us. We have also been looking at our houses on google maps. We have also been learning all about Remembernce day and why we celebrate it. Look at our amazing poppies.

4th November 2022 - Star of the week is Amelia for her amazing attitude towards her learning and always trying her hardest. Xander is writer of the week for his list of potion ingredients. He wrote initial sounds and is beginning to form them clearly. Well done both of you!

w/c 31st October 2022 - We have had a great first week back with lots of Halloween themed activities. Our main focus has been making potions and writing lists with all our ingredients. Lots of interesting potions were made!

21st October 2022 - Star of the week is Marek for great improvement in his maths work. Leo is writer of the week for writing his name clearly. Well done boys!

We are the bird feeders!

Enterprise Week! Reception are creating their own bird feeders as their project for Enterprise week. So far we have watched some videos of British birds eating from shop bought feeders. We have started to make our own using peanut butter, bird seeds, apples, pine cones and sticks. To finish advertising our products, we created a song and a poster to help sell them. A huge thanks to Ken who came with his 50p to buy a bird feeder! All the bird feeders are now hanging in Ken's garden, we are hoping to see some very full birds as they eat from the bird feeders!

14th October 2022 - Star of the week is Logan for his amazing efforts when dancing, he has some really good dance moves! Writer of the week is Bella for using the magnetic letters to spell and make a word. Great effort this week Logan and Bella!

w/c 10th October 2022 - We have been exploring Autumn this week with all the leaves in the sand tray. Using the grabbers to pick the leaves up is really helping to make our hands stronger. We have been comparing amounts in maths by using the vocabulary 'more', 'fewer' and 'same' to talk about them. We have also been playing with some new construction resources we have very kindly been gifted.

7th October 2022 - Star of the week is Lily for her efforts in Phonics. She joins in well and is showing great progress already. Willow is writer of the week for her lovely drawing of her family. Well done girls, super effort!

w/c 3rd October - This week in Maths we have been sorting objects according to their features such as colour, shape and size. The children have worked well togther to ensure everything is sorted. In Literacy, we have been drawing and talking about our families. We have some amazing drawings I'm sure you'll agree.

30th September 2022 - Star of the week is Miah for her amazing efforts when reading with Miss Murphy. Writer of the week is Shreyo for his beautiful formation of our Phonics sounds this week. Well done both of you!

w/c 26th September 2022 - This week in Maths we have been looking at matching. Using socks has been a great way for the children to show an understanding of matching 2 objects together to make a pair. We have also used the pictures from Noah's Arc. We have been doing lots more talking about ourselves and what makes us the same and different. It's been a fabulous week of speaking and lovely to see the children's confidence grow already.

23rd September 2022 - Star of the week is Erin for being an all round superstar, always making the right choices, joining in and being a positive role model to others. Melian is writer of the week for her super mark making on her all about me work. Well done girls!

w/c 19th September 2022 - This week in maths we have been focusing on colours. We investigated the colour purple and how to make it. We have had so much fun making lots of different shades of purple. During our Literacy time, we have been talking about ourselves.

16th September 2022 - Star of the week is Dennison for joining in during group times and Writer of the week is Carter for amazing name writing. Well done boys!

Week 2 - w/c 12th September 2022 - This week we have been talking lots about our feelings and sharing them each morning. We have been trying really hard to write our names too in our name writing books and on whiteboards.

9/9/22 - Star of the week is Noah for a superb start to Reception. Writer of the week is Sapphire for writing her name. Well done you two and also to the rest of Reception for their first week!
