Pupil Premium Grant Funding


The pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. (


The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current inequalities between children, ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches pupils who need it most. The Pupil Premium funding that is received by the school annually is used in a variety of ways in order to improve pupil attainment and to help overcome any barriers to learning. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for pupils. The Pupil Premium is allocated for children who are entitled to Free School Meals (FSM), are 'Children Looked After' or have parents in the Armed Services.


At Armley Park Primary School, we use the Pupil Premium in different ways to support pupils' individual needs and to help them to achieve their full potential. This could be additional support in English and Maths, support with gross or fine motor skills, support with speech and language, support with social development, access to a range of experiences, free (or subsidised) clubs (including breakfast club), support with attendance and punctuality or anything else that a child needs to enable them to thrive at Armley Park Primary School. 


For the academic year 2021-2022, the money that the school receives from the Government will be spent in a range of different ways including:

  • additional classroom staff
  • pastoral staff
  • visits, visitors and experiences
  • speech and language therapy
  • updating equipment throughout school
  • providing breakfast club and after school club places for some pupils


We will use the additional funding to meet the needs of those eligible pupils in the most appropriate way, we make sure they receive the support they individually need to make good progress. Using formative and summative assessments throughout the year, in line with the whole school methods, the effect of the additional support will be measured regularly and changes made according to their needs. 


At the end of the summer term, a formal review will be carried out to analyse the impact of the additional support.
