Welcome Newsletter September 2020

16th July - Reception's star of the week is Denis, he is putting lots of effort in and becoming more confident in communicating to others. Daniel is our writer of the week. He is really proud that he can write his name without using his name card. Daniel is also writing words independently, using his phonics knowledge well. Great work this week boys!

Early Years Sports Day 13th July 2021 - Take a look at some pictures and videos from our Sports Day. The children all took part and showed great sportsmanship by cheering on each other. Well done everyone!

9th July 2021 - Star of the week is Tommy for his fantastic effort in Maths this week. Ruby-Niamh is our writer of the week for writing Miss Jackson's name after initially saying she couldn't do it! Well done to the both of you!

w/c 5th July 2021 - This week Reception have been learning all about greater than, less than and equals in maths. We used Numberblocks and Blockzilla to support our learning. We have also shown an interest in developing our fine motor skills by making lots of necklaces and bracelets using beads and making England flags with the pegs and boards.

2nd July 2021 - Reception's star of the week is Harvey for persevering when he found a writing task hard and writer of the week is Amber for gaining in confidence in writing independently. Well done to the both of you!

w/c 28th June 2021 - This week in Reception, we have been recapping on number bonds to 5 and 10. We have used Numicon and 5's frames to help us learn and recall the bonds. We have also been building lots of dens outside using a variety of materials and equipment. All children have been very engaged, taking turns, working as a team and communicating well. Have you made a den at home before?

25th June 2021 - Reception have 2 stars of the week, Angel and Amber! Both girls have really impressed me with their reading this week, well done girls!

w/c 21st June - Patterns, patterns and more patterns! This week in Reception we have been looking at repeating patterns, we explored all different resources in all areas of provision to make our patterns. We also had some shocking news, the Giant is missing! We talked about what he looked like so we could describe him to others. Look at some of or amazing missing posters! Have you seen the Giant anywhere?

18th June 2021 - Star of the week for Reception is Edwin for creating his own England flag all ready for their game against Scotland! Evie is writer of the week for her amazing story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Well done Edwin and Evie!

w/c 14th June 2021 - Another busy week of exploring shapes, their properties and using shapes to make pictures. We used shapes to make the Giant and his castle. We planted our very own beanstalk for our Dad's Grandad's and Brothers for Father's Day this Sunday. We have also been exploring our garden as the wildflowers have bloomed and we have lots to look at. We noticed so many bees and other mini beasts as well as talking about the colours, sizes and smells of the flowers.

11th June 2021 - Reception's star of the week is Fabiana. She always has a smile on her face and it really makes everyone else feel so happy! Writer of the week is Harry, he drew an amazing castle for the Giant and then labelled it too! Well done to both of you.

w/c 7th June 2021 - Shapes, shapes and even more shapes! Reception have been working really hard to name simple shapes and talk about their properties. Lot's of independent learning and exploring. What shapes can you find around your house? Our topic is 'We're going on an adventure...' and Reception are using the story, 'Jack and the Beanstalk.' Would you climb up a beanstalk if it grew in your garden?

W/C 17th May 2021 - Reception set their butterflies free this week. We watched them fly off and some landed on the tree and some on our hands! We hope they come back and lay eggs in our garden. Reception have also been learning all about the number 10 this week. We used Numicon to find as many different ways to make 10. We also had a new friend start in our class and he has soon settled in, a big hello to Jenson!

14th May 2021 - Writer of the week is Bruno! He has really impressed his teachers with his independent writing about British wildlife. Star of the week is Harry, he has really tried hard when using his phonics in his writing. Well done to you both!

W/C 10th May 2021 - This week in Reception we have been learning all about the number 9. One group have been finding out about the composition of 9, they've worked really hard. Lots of mark making, wildlife challenges and watching our butterflies emerge from their cocoons, how exciting!

7th May 2021 - Daniel and Piotr are our stars of the week in Reception! Daniel has been reading his tricky words and Piotr was confident coming into class this morning. Well done boys!

W/C 3rd May 2021 - We now have chrysalis' in Reception! The children watched the caterpillars grow and make their way to the top of the cup. Once they were are the top, we saw them creating a cocoon! We had the special job of placing them into the butterfly garden ready for the next transformation. We are also talking about British Wildlife in Reception and have been exploring books to find out some more information. What types of wildlife have you seen in your garden?

A huge thank you to Ken, his brother David and his friend Clive for donating this amazing wendy house to Early Years. It has been such a huge hit and the children (and adults!) love it. Also a huge thank you to a very kind neighbour of Miss Muphy's who has knitted lots of colorful mice for us to use as props in Nursery rhymes and for counting. Donations like these are greatly received and have a great impact on the children's learning and development.

30th April 2021 - Ruby-Niamh is our star of the week for her enthuiasm towards our caterpillar learning this week. George is our writer of the week for his efforts in phonics and applying the sounds he has learnt into his reading and writing. Well done to you both!

W/C 26th April 2021 - This week has been very exciting, our caterpillars have arrived!! We have been working in small groups throughout the week to talk about what we already know about caterpillars, we then used the internet and books to find out some more information. Lots of lovely discussions, writing, reading and team work going on. We cannot wait to keep watching the caterpillars change and grow and see a life cycle happen in our own classroom!

W/C 19th April - We have had a busy first week back in Reception. We are using the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar to support our Maths and English work and we are eagerly awaiting the delivery of our very own caterpillars! The stars of the week for Reception are Logan W and Logan D-F. Logan W has been a little superstar in Maths and is becoming so much more confident in subitising. Logan D-F has been writing sentences in English all about the Hungry Caterpillar. A huge well done to you both!

W/C 29th March 2021 - Wishing you all a Happy Easter!! Have a lovely break, looking forward to seeing you all back in school on the 19th April :)

W/C 22nd March 2021 - I am so proud of Reception this week, lots of amazing mark making and writing whilst in the building area exploring the mobilo. We have also been taste testing vegetables and talking about our likes and dislikes. In maths we have been using tens and fives frames to explore how numbers are made and talking about more and less than.

How many little hands does it take to plant some seeds?!

Nursery and Reception all wanted to plant some pea seeds after talking about how vegetables grow. We talked about what seeds need to grow and introduced new vocabulary such as 'compost'.

W/C 15th March 2021 - Another really busy week in Reception! We have been doing lots of mark making, reading, exploring and talking about different vegetables which led to us planting some seeds in the garden! Can you remember what vegetables we looked at?

W/C 8th March - WELCOME BACK! What a lovely week having all our friends back in school. In Reception we have been making signs for our building's outside, exploring the cafe role play area, whole class phonics sessions, planting sunflower seeds for Mother's Day and accessing the areas of provision. Week 6 - 14th December - This week has been filled with lots of fun Christmassy things. We have had our Christmas party, Christmas dinner, role play, singing songs and a surprise visit from Santa! We are really excited for Christmas, hope you all have a fun and safe break!

Week 6 - 7th December 2020 - In Maths this week we have been finishing learning all about the number 3. We have been counting, showing 3 and finding out different ways to make 3. Reception have also been doing lots of mark making this week too. Writing words on the table, using large paper to create maps, chalking outside and writing sounds.

Week 3 - 16th November 2020 - This week in Reception we have been focusing on our topic of 'The World around us.' We looked at a map of the world and talked about where we and our families are from. Then we focused on where we all live now. We discussed Leeds and the places you can go to. The children also looked at their houses on Google Maps, it prompted some lovely conversations.

Week 2 - 9th November 2020 - Reception have been creating their own rainbows for Science Week. We used skittles and hot water and watched the magic happen! On Remembrance Day, Reception watched a video and joined in the National 2 Minute silence. We then created our own Poppies and I am sure you'll agree, they look amazing on the display in the entrance of school.

Week 1 - 2nd November 2020 - What a busy first week back we have had in Reception! We have been learning all about the number 1. We created a 'one' board to show us how the number 1 can be represented in many different ways. In phonics we have been making and writing cvc words. At dinner time, we are being encouraged to use a knife and fork to eat our food. We are all tired and ready for the weekend to relax!

Week 7 - 19th October 2020. This week has been a focus week to promote children's talking, thinking and reasoning. Early Years had a box delivered and all week we have been discussing whether to open the box or not. Lots of new vocabulary was introduced and the children had some very interesting ideas as to what could be inside. We voted and the majority wanted it opened and good job as it was a present from Christopher Pumpkin! We had some milkshakes, yummy marshmallows and a little Halloween party! Have a great half term, see you all next week!
